Letter from Mr. Holmes
Dear Visitor,
If you grew up like me, you might remember starting out with just a few jumbo crayons—maybe six or eight colors. Over time, you moved up to a pack of 24, then maybe that amazing box of 32 crayons with the built-in sharpener. Suddenly, you had all these new shades and choices you didn’t even know existed. Today, you can buy colored pencils in hundreds of colors, each one adding a new nuance.
It’s the same with human beings. The more we learn about the diversity of people, the more we recognize just how many unique “colors” exist in the world. According to the CIA World Factbook, China officially recognizes 56 distinct ethnic groups, reflecting its deep cultural richness.
Similarly, Chad is home to around 200 ethnic groups, including Arabs, Gorane (Toubou, Daza, Kreda), Zaghawa, and others, each adding to the country’s complex identity.
Just like every crayon in the box has a place, every culture adds richness and nuance to the landscape of Human geography. We’ll never run out of things to learn about when it comes to human culture, and that’s what makes this subject fascinating.
-Mr. Holmes
